Wombat: All right.
Were in Eco Town with ECO Block.
Ive got Daz.
Were going to have a little bit of a chat about polystyrene and what you guys use it for because Ive got my little polystyrene poo which I carry around with me.
So this stuff here is actually the same as the sheeting that you guys use and its melted down and this is how they recycle it.
But I want to know what you guys use it for in the way of building side of things. Daz: We use it as a stay in place formwork for reinforced concrete.
So the panels are the formwork and a connector that goes in between we can vary that connector to place our concrete.
As you can see weve got the steel in here which is reinforcing that concrete.
So we can engineer this to be a cyclone rated product or retaining walls or whatever. Wombat: So its concrete on the inside. Daz: On the inside yes. Wombat: Foam block on the outside. Daz: Correct. Wombat: So a bit different from SIPS panel because its foam on the inside and then then a sheeting on the outside. Daz: Yeah thats right.
Correct. Wombat: So youve actually got concrete foundation wall on the inside. Daz: Yes.
Its the structural integrity of the building that is coming from that concrete. Wombat: And then what do you skim it with? I see you got a little bit of a display here. Daz: Sure.
This is a polymer render that goes on to...
Its actually a sand and cement bagged render that has a polymer in it which actually sticks like inaudible 00:01:16 to the polystyrene.
So because it doesnt absorb moisture its a chemical bond from that to the polystyrene.
But were not limited to just rendering because our system has this web system that goes cast into the polystyrene in the manufacturing process we can screw fix into this.
So therefore we can clad these walls with cement sheet corrugated iron weatherboards. Wombat: Oh really? So you can stick anything on the outside? Daz: Anything.
And then that relates back onto the inside where we just screw and glue plasterboard. Wombat: Oh yeah.
Finish it off. Daz: Because all those webs are every 200 millimetres along the block. Wombat: So the biggest thing Im interested in we had a bit of a chat about it already and its the amount that you can reduce whats going into the skip bin because 45 of our landfill is actually building waste. Daz: Yes.
All of my off cuts which is very very limited.
Its only because of the architectural design that we might have a different size window.
Well have an off cut.
Now those offcuts we put them in the bags and they go back to our refuse tip and they get melted down and re-processed so nothing is going into landfill.
Weve done homes here where theyre two and three story homes with no skip bin onsite. Wombat: Really? Daz: No builders bin on site. Wombat: Thats awesome. Daz: Yes because were taking that away to the recycling and its getting reprocessed again. Wombat: And thats why you have eco in front of block. Daz: Exactly.
