We and offer a variety of service times.
Lay members of the parish serve in worship with the clergy in a wide range of positions.
Broad engagement and leadership in worship is fundamental to our life together. Fellowship: Join us for coffee and conversation after many Sunday services.
Or join us for picnics Mass-on-the-Grass the annual parish retreat knitting club Seniors Adult Ministry activities preparing merchandise to sell at our famous Pumpkin Patch each fall and so much more! Children and Youth Ministry: We have a professionally-staffed Nursery in each chapel during 8 and 10:30 services.
We proudly offer Godly Play for children during the 10:30 service and currently have online Sunday School.
EYC Episcopal Youth Community involves 6th through 12th graders in a variety of service art and teen fellowship and formation activitiesincluding Confirmation Catechism classes.
Many of our youth also serve as acolytes ushers readers or musicians.
Adult Education and Spiritual Formation: Sunday Forum Hours feature speakers on Christian discipleship and current topics.
We also offer adult inquirers classes book discussions and Bible study groups.
The Circle of Quiet shares contemplative prayer and a Benedictine chapter meets to pray and study. Seniors: Our ministry together includes a vibrant community of older adults who are active participants in all aspects of parish life.
The mission of Senior Ministry and Fellowship is to support them in their faith journey with educational and fellowship opportunities of special interest to seniors links to important resources and programs that help to integrate all generations spiritually. Music: Our music enhances our worship and all are welcome to become involved through choirs our Handbell Choir or ringing the bells in the tower of Immanuel Chapel.
A smaller group of musicians the Shrinemonters named after our Diocesan retreat center in the Shenandoah Mountains lead more modern music at outdoor masses and fellowship events. Outreach: Our Outreach ministry is dedicated to demonstrating faith in action through programs enabling us to connect with and serve the needy in Alexandria the region and abroad.
Dont miss our annual pumpkin sale raising funds to support more than 30 local regional and international charities. Social Justice Ministry and Committee: Our history of social justice engagement dates to the 1960s and includes issues of civil rights refugee resettlement and ministry to Native Americans a major financial and parish-wide commitment to outreach locally regionally and internationally and a strong and growing creation care ministry focused in part on climate justice.
In the wake of the murder of George Floyd in 2020 Immanuels Vestry initiated a new social justice ministry focused initially on racial justice and on looking inward learning and dialogue.
Pastoral Care: Our team rotates responsibilities such as note writing to parishioners occasional meal preparation and providing transportation.
One of the benefits of serving on the committee is getting a better feel for whom within our Parish might need some extra support whether via prayer or service. Connection to Virginia Theological Seminary: Our parish was founded by the Virginia Theological Seminary in 1941.

Zabriskie officially served as the first Rector of the parish.
Several ordained faculty members of VTS currently serve as Priests Associate for Immanuel.
Other faculty members staff and seminarians have made Immanuel their home congregation.
We serve as a field education site for seminarians at VTS as well as a training site for the Diocese of Virginias summer internship program Mid-Atlantic Parish Training Program.
